A plein air painting trip to Whittier, Alaska, was occasioned by major construction in the act of building a railway bridge jutting out into Prince William Sound for arriving barges to unload their cargo. The water is deep and cold, and because Whittier is like a small pocket surrounded by mountains, it is considered the birth place of the wind. These workers were inspecting the newest portion of the bridge, back-lit by the windswept sea.
